A Word from the Developer, December 2008:

Wow, what a historic year 2008 has become. We have never seen such a tough business climate since buying the Ranch in 1994. We have greatly reduced our expenses and overhead to weather the storm. Mexico, and San Felipe especially, is a good place to be right now. It is a much less expensive place to live than any city in the U.S. Ernst & Young published a report in June 2008 that shows that soon to retire baby boomers are 30% short in their estimation of the cash they need to live out their lives. The alternative is that baby boomers will be required to work longer, trade down their lifestyles, or find a less expensive place to live during retirement. We know that even though the economy is tough and predicted to remain that way for at least the next 12-18 months, the 70 million U.S. baby boomers and the 9 million Canadian baby boomers will continue to turn 60 at a rate of almost 10,000 per day on average. These baby boomers have to find affordable places to retire.

As the economy normalizes and for those baby boomers retiring in the near term San Felipe and El Dorado Ranch will be a great alternative. After housing costs, many of our residents tell us they can live pretty much on their social security checks. While our sales pace has slowed during 2008 mainly due to the economy, we are still selling. We will continue our growth efforts and fully expect to be well positioned to meet what we expect to be a pent up demand as the world and U.S. economies improve.
